The general managers of the thirty franchises have filled in their questionnaire, as they do every year before the regular season. Victor Wembanyama is MVP at 77%. Nikola Jokic has 10%, Anthony Edwards 7%. The Spurs are title favourites at 50%, the Thunder at 43%.
I read it on RMC Sport, with my binder open on the kitchen table. I was looking for the sheet. There isn’t one. Nobody has played yet.
At our place, nothing gets filled in before the warm-up. The numbers, the names, the signatures of the two captains. Then the buzzer. Before that, the sheet is blank, and it’s right to be. Over there, they fill in the winner’s box in October, thirty of them, no referee.
The player to pick to start a franchise: Wembanyama again, at 93%. The one who forces opposing coaches to make the most adjustments: him again, 47%. Noted. Three columns, one name. At our place, when the same name comes up in three columns, it means the scorer has fallen asleep on the pen.
For first place in the West, 53% for San Antonio, 47% for Oklahoma City. Now that is a tight score. The only one of the evening, and there was no game.
Thirty people voting for the winner before the game, at our place we call that the raffle, mind you. And that one, at least, gets drawn.
I’m not against predictions. I’m asking who signs. Blank sheet, clock at zero, season not started.
It’s true, we checked: RMC Sport.
