Fenerbahçe won 78-68 against Virtus Bologna, in Istanbul, in their first Euroleague game. The team trailed in the fourth quarter. They won on experience.
After the game, Sarunas Jasikevicius talked about his team, then about himself. “We were not at our best today. Also, Fenerbahçe was not coached very well today,” he told Eurohoops. Fenerbahçe’s coach is Jasikevicius himself.
He added: “I think I made a tactical mistake in defense. When we changed our defense in the second half, we were able to stop them. So, this is probably largely my fault.” He said the lessons from the match had to start “with myself”.
A coach who says his own team was poorly coached. At our place, coaches only talk about coaching at the table, and it’s to argue a call. They never put themselves on the sheet. I don’t know where to put this either. A technical foul on the bench, we know how to write that down. A tactical foul on the bench, self-confessed, there’s no box for it. Ten points, seventy-eight to sixty-eight. Noted: a win, coach at fault, signed by himself. It’s on the sheet.
According to Jasikevicius, switching on defence was the right call for his team.
It’s true, we checked: Eurohoops.
