A line that can be filled in at any time doesn’t get closed before the buzzer. Brian Windhorst said it on a podcast: he hasn’t signed, that doesn’t mean he won’t. It’s marked the same way on my sheet: nothing in the column, no conclusions drawn.
The buzzer hasn’t sounded. He’s entering the last season of his contract, and the box stays empty. That’s not a scoresheet error. It’s a wait, and a wait gets noted the same as a fact: nothing in the column, a dot in the margin, so nobody forgets to come back to it.
The same podcast says another player, Brandin Podziemski, is also eligible and is also entering the final year of his contract. Where I sit, we don’t keep track of the numbers that pass through. We keep the minute, the foul, the time-out. A figure like that has no column on my sheet.
Two players, two lines, none signed. I don’t close anything until it’s signed. Noted: file open, clock stopped, ball at the table.
After that, it’s just talk.
It’s true, we checked: BasketNews.
