The news that shoots from distance

Thirty points in the Finals, then a biscuit shoe: the sheet only keeps the game

The day after her 30 points and 16 rebounds in the WNBA Finals, which levelled the series at 1-1 for Atlanta against the Golden State Valkyries, Angel Reese sees Reebok release a “Reese’s” colourway of her signature shoe, available in North America.

Atlanta levelled at one-all in the WNBA Finals, against the Golden State Valkyries. Angel Reese scored thirty points and took sixteen rebounds. Noted.

The next day, Reebok releases its shoe in brown, light green, yellow and orange, with a biscuit brand’s logo on the tongue. Before that, it was Barbie. There’s also a cap and a beanie on her site.

At our place, the scoresheet has six columns. Number, name, points, fouls, time-outs, signature. There isn’t one for the colour of the shoes. I once saw a player come on with two different shoes, at half past eight on a Saturday, because the other one had stayed in the minibus. The referee blew the whistle, I wrote down the number. Nobody asked about the brand.

The sole has a technology called “Energy Return System”. I don’t doubt it gives back energy. I note that it doesn’t give back a column.

It isn’t in Europe yet. The floor on the Herve plateau, near Verviers, gets sticky in January anyway. It will stick just the same under a biscuit shoe.

Line for the sheet: Reese, thirty points, sixteen rebounds. It’s on the sheet.

It’s true, we checked: Basket USA.
