The news that shoots from distance

Extended to 2030, Lefrançois announces it himself: Martine gets out the folder

Fabrice Lefrançois has signed two more seasons with Cholet Basket, through to June 2030. The 43-year-old coach told the Cholet crowd himself, with nothing published by the club beforehand.

A coach announces his own contract extension while Martine writes it down in her binder.

His first line was a question: « Is it down to me to say it? », BeBasket reported. Nobody had put anything out, he had the information, he gave it.

He was already tied to Cholet until 2028, after an extension signed in March 2025. So two seasons go on top. Born in Vitry-sur-Seine, he joined the club in 2021 as an assistant, after a first spell as head coach in the LNB at Évreux, and moved onto the main bench in the summer of 2024, when Laurent Vila left.

What happened between the two contracts fits in a few lines. In 2024-2025, Cholet finished 4th in the French championship regular season with 21 wins and 9 defeats, reached the FIBA Europe Cup semi-finals, and he was named coach of the year 2025. Last season: 5th, 19 wins, 11 defeats, ASVEL knocked out in the quarter-finals, play-off semi-finals. This summer he joined the New York Knicks staff during the Las Vegas Summer League.

An extension announced with no lights down, no two-second pause before the first name, no jingle, and by the man himself. He did my job, standing up, cold. Just saying.

The deal could also make him the first coach to work in Cholet’s future Palais des Sports, due to open by 2030.

An extension has an order: you sign, somebody writes it down, and then you say it. He did all three, and he started by asking the question. At our place, the table asks the questions, and the answer fits on one line. Two more seasons, through to June 2030, announced by the man himself. It’s on the sheet.

It’s true, we checked: BeBasket.
